Trainee Program

A post-secondary full day vocational program providing critical training and performance opportunities for dancers transitioning to a professional career.

Dancers accepted into CBSA’s II Trainee Program will focus on perfecting their technique while discovering what it takes to transition into a professional dance career. CBSA Artistic Staff instructs the Trainee Program classes in classical ballet technique, pointe, contemporary, variations, partnering, modern, pilates, men's balletics, pas de deux, conditioning, progressive ballet, repertoire, modern, and musical theatre depending on area of chosen career path.Trainees will learn to perform both repertoire by the Artistic Director and choreography created by the artistic staff.

CBSA II Professional Division offers preparation for a company environment by nurturing a dancers’ development in technique and artistry. This is accomplished through intensive training and rehearsals with international ballet masters and coaches.

Students will have the opportunity to understudy principal dancer roles and will perform in professional performances with high caliber professionals and trainees.

Due to the highly selective nature of this program, only 30 trainees will be accepted. Auditions must be submitted by August 1, 2023. Season begins August 14, 2023 , season ends May 3, 2023 for the 2023-2024 season.

  • -Trainees will be selected by a requested audition, or exclusively at the invitation of the Artistic Director. Contact us in order to schedule your audition.

    -There will not be any in-person open auditions for the Trainee Division at this time.

    -Offers are also typically extended through participation in the Summer Intensive and year-round programs.

  • -Please submit a resume/CV with the following information:

    -Date of birth

    -Height in feet/inches

    -Training and Performance Experience

    -Headshot and Dance Photographs (Accepted formats: .jpg, .png, .pdf)

    -One headshot

    -One or more full body dance photos

    -Video Link

    (Accepted formats: YouTube, Vimeo, Drive link such as Google -provide link passwords if necessary)

    -Classical and contemporary works previously performed.

    Your audition application will not be processed if the requested materials have not been submitted.

  • -Previous pre-professional or professional training experience required.

    -Must be 18+.

    -Proof of High School or equivalent completion.

    -Audition must be submitted by March 1, 2023.

    -Ability to attend daily training and rehearsals as required during productions.

    -All Trainees must attend at least three weeks of the DCSA Summer Intensive.

  • -Trainings will be held Monday through Friday,

    -Optional Saturday trainings.

    -Rehearsal schedules will vary during productions, and are mandatory.

    -Trainees will take company classes each morning followed by classes specifically catered towards repertory, choreography and the dancers' individual needs.

    - Trainees will have rehearsals, career planning, resume writing and assistance in the audition/job search process with individual counseling and meetings.

  • -Trainees will perform in Academy productions with recent repertoire.

    -Quarterly showcases

    -Trainees will learn to perform both repertoire by the Artistic faculty and choreography created by the artistic staff.

    -Trainees will opportunities to perform alongside world-renowned guest artists.
